It might sound a little odd, but my local yarn stores are in both NYC and Denver! Last fall, I was fortunate enough to parlay my love of making (knit, crochet, pottery, you name it) into marketing work at Craftsy, soon-to-named Bluprint. I spent my professional life in marketing at large media companies including Yahoo!, Time Inc. and Bloomberg. Having this change to combine my professional skills with my passion for crafting was a huge thrill. But I didn't just stop with commuting to Denver for work. Why not find the knitters there too? Several months later, I am happy to share that I am part of a Tuesday night knitting Ewe Can Knit class here in NY, and, when there, I am now in a Wednesday night Knit Clinic led by another amazing knitter and Bluprint colleague, Sunne. Having supportive groups and places to learn, even when I work on an online learning platform (!), gives me such happiness. Last August, the NY group made socks, though I am still not caught up, and now my Denver group is starting a "Knitorious RBG" KAL (Knit Along) this week. I will be using this squishy goodness, Cloudborn, available on Craftsy and soon on MyBluprint.com
Not satisfied to stop at these classes, I just signed up for a sewing class for adults, led by the teachers at Sew Happy, a friend Kim's company. I can't wait! Make this your year to learn -- close to home or wherever life and work take you. Giving yourself the time and space to try new things will reap rewards beyond anything I can list here. You don't need to be an expert. The journey - from here to Denver or even to online classes - will be well worth it.
